Perfect Stop Motion

This origami stop motion was obviously very VERY meticulously crafted:

Food Systems Animation

Michael Pollan's Food Rules

This video is a good example of using animation sparingly in a way that illustrates the message of the story rather than overwhelming the viewer with superfluous imagery.

Opening Sequence - Six Feet Under

I thought this was another good example, particularly from 1:19 on, of animating still photography in interesting ways.  This clip is the opening sequence of Six Feet Under:

Opening Sequence - Nip/Tuck

The opening sequence for Nip/Tuck nicely demonstrates techniques that can be used to animate still shots.

Paper Cut-Outs

This is a simple animation that was done as a school project.  It is a little rough, but I think it does a good job of demonstrating how a consistent style and design can be more important than fancy effects.

Stop Motion Reel

My roommate is a film director and this is a link to his stop motion reel:

Eriq Wities

I find it very interesting talking to him about technique and programs, not to mention witnessing how many hours the material preparation, filming, and editing take.

Stop Motion

I thought this was a very sweet (not to mention impressive and time-consuming!) use of stop-motion.

Fracking

I thought this one was a cute use of typography in motion for an educational purpose:

Type in Motion

Here is another inventive way of showing dynamism and form through typography.  I was especially interested in this clip as an example of neighborhood branding in NYC.

Sew Clever

This video was particularly eye-catching to me because of its relation to sewing and Kathryn's project.  However, I was also just blown away by the animation.  Any insight on how they got the words to animate like that would be greatly appreciated...

Type Au Naturel

This is another example of typography with an environmental message.  This video, however, is less dependent on words, instead using letterforms to create images.  The trees, in particular, reminded me of Mona's project.  I think this piece does a good job of using the shape of the letters to really create the imagery.

Go Green

In this commercial for Treehugger.com, kinetic typography is used to effectively illustrate an environmental message:

Urban Walls

An article in Core77 led me to explore the work of James Zanoni, a motion graphics artist.  I particularly enjoyed how he incorporates motion graphics with live action.  I also appreciated the industrial education aspect of the video, Urban Walls.

Motion Graphics--When and Where?

Everything I watch these days I now wonder: is this motion graphics?  I'm eager to learn more about After Effects and Flash so that I can begin to see where they are most effectively applied.

For example, this video from the magazine I used to work at could have been made with Final Cut.  But now I wonder if Flash would be a more efficient tool:

Found: Motion Graphics

I woke up this morning to see this little example of After Effects posted on my Facebook feed:

Fun fact: these 32 seconds reportedly took 12+ hours to produce...
